Habitat: Saprotrophic. In Europe this is a montane species growing mainly on Abies and Picea spp., in native woodland, but in Britain always on structural (coniferous?) timbers in buildings.
Notes: In continental Europe this is a montane species growing mainly on Abies and Picea spp. in native woodland, but in Britain always on softwood timbers in buildings. A few widely scattered collections from England (South Essex, South Lancashire and Surrey) and a single one from Scotland (Angus). Reported from Northern Ireland (Down) in 1997 but unsubstantiated with voucher material.
