What's New (and not so new)
- October 2009
- FULL AND FREE ACCESS TO ALL RECORDS. After
a lengthy but necessary consultation period to resolve copyright issues
all data for all records are now open and freely accessible. Thanks
to all those who were instrumental in making this happen, especially
those who took the time to sign the copyright licence form. With this
full and free access comes responsibility; the records in the FRDBI
are made available under a Creative
Commons license : by-nc-sa - see our copyright
(or should that be copyleft) page for a full explanation of what this
means. FRDBI records will be reloaded on the NBN
where they will be available for download from the NBN
Gateway. Concurrently, they will be made available to GBIF
so the world can see records of British Fungi in a global context through
the GBIF portal.
- See the old home page for other information
- The Fungal Records Database of Britain and Ireland
(FRDBI) has reached another significant milestone: 1·5
million records. With a certain amount of stage management
;-) record number 1500000 turns out to be Phellinus
robustus, recorded by Martyn Ainsworth, from Great Bookham Common
in early January 2009 and with a voucher preserved in the National Collection
at Kew
- An updated Red List for Fungi is available for download
here. It includes new assessments together with threat categories
and brief accompanying notes and was compiled by Shelley Evans, Alick
Henrici and Bruce Ing on behalf of the BMS. It replaces the 1992 provisional
RDL from Bruce Ing
- The web site and database is now available on
three servers after new investment. This allows for new developments
to take place without interrupting normal service
- English
Names for British Fungi
- A page of links
to Local Recording Groups has been established - check if yours is present.
If it is, a reciprocal link would be appreciated
- The 10th Edition of
Ainsworth & Bisby's Dictionary of the Fungi has been published
by CABI and the Checklist
of British Fungi (GBCHKLST) now incorporates the up-to-date classification
adopted therein and is available here for downloading.
- The checklist
of British Fungi, which includes synonymy (most synonyms cited in British
literature), places of publication, habitat and distribution, continues
to be updated. The major contribution to this electronic checklist is
from the Checklist
of British Basidiomycota, published by RBG Kew. The checklist now
contains synonymy from the most recent Lichen checklist together with
some notes on habitat and distribution
- Simple keys with
species-data hot-links, e.g. Phellodon,
Peziza
This site uses an underlying database to
contain information on names, synonyms, publications, descriptions, field
observations, distribution maps, pictures and keys of British fungi. The
database holds the links between all these data-elements making it easier
to manage the large amount of data. It also facilitates the cross-indexed
access provided by the links above. You must have 'cookies' enabled on your
browser to use this site correctly. |
